Who are you? Where are you from?
My name is Tyler Marenyi and I produce future bass sounds/trap/electro house under the name “NGHTMRE”. Born in Connecticut, raised and went to college in North Carolina, now in Los Angeles.
How long have you been producing music?
4 years. for 3 of them I produced under the name “Tmare”. Now that i’ve finished production school and my technical skills have improved, I decided to start fresh with the “NGHTMRE” alias.
Which DAW do you prefer to use?
Ableton is definitely my favorite and what I use for 95 percent of my productions. I know my way around Logic and Reason as well, but Ableton is my go to.
Which VST Plugins do you like to use?
Outside of the built-in Ableton instruments/effects I often use: Massive, Sylenth1, CamelPhat, Ohmicide, then Waves and Fabfilter mostly for dynamic processing.
What do you do when you hit a roadblock in your creative process? How do you get back on track?
Be okay with going into an production session and and having nothing amazing come out of it. Many times I find myself roadblocked because I can’t think of a new or cool enough sound that will really wow people. You HAVE to spend time just experimenting with sounds, adding distortion, crazy effects, and doing things you know are against the “rules” to try and come up with something unique. Many times my favorite sound in a track is one I created on accident.
What hobbies / activities are you involved in when you’re not working on music?
Hiking, Going to the beach, Cooking, Snowboarding, Going to chill shows. Honestly in recent days I mostly just work on music and go hiking. Gotta stay on that music grind.
If you were a superhero, what is your super power???
If there are other superheroes then I’d want to be able to steal superpowers from any other hero who I am near. If there aren’t any other superheroes, I’d just want to fly.
If I came over for dinner, what are you cooking me?
Well, Spaghetti Sunday is a tradition in our house. Spaghetti alla Carbonara is the specialty.
What sound do you love?
A sizzling piece of steak/bacon.
What sound do you hate?
People chewing cereal with their mouth open.
What are you currently working on?
I have about 4 or 5 new original tracks i’m going to be slowly releasing over the next few months. Plus official remixes for Victor Niglio, and one for Capitol Records. And lastly a new collaboration with Richard Vission coming this summer
What advice do you have for up and coming artists?
If you want to be a digital music producer, work on getting your mixdowns sounding nice its WAY more important than mastering. All you need is dope mix down, whatever sounds/synths you desire, well processed drums, and good structure to get a really solid track complete. Get used to using send/return tracks so your reverbs/delays are cohesive. Don’t overfill your track with sounds and listen to other songs that you KNOW are well produced as references for each step!
